Legislator of the Year 2009

(NASHVILLE)- Representative Tony Shipley (R-Kingsport) was honored recently by the Tennessee Psychological Association for his efforts during the 2009 legislative session of the 106th General Assembly. Representative Shipley is the first freshman to ever receive the award.

“This comes on behalf of his tireless efforts to ensure access to appropriate mental health care to all Tennesseans,” said TPA President Mark Phillips, Ph. D. “Rep. Shipley sponsored TPA-backed legislation recognizing that mental health problems need mental health specialists.”

“Tony Shipley’s experience in the United States military and as a private sector critical care Paramedic provides him with a unique understanding of the problems with the delivery of mental health services,” noted Lance Laurence, Ph. D., TPA’s Director of Legislative and Professional Affairs.

“I’m honored to be recognized by this organization, and I’m humbled by their kind words,” said Representative Shipley. “I appreciate the work they do, and will continue to work with them to promote human welfare.”

The Tennessee Psychological Association is a professional organization representing the interests of psychologists and their patients.

Representative Shipley is serving his first term in the legislature, and serves on the House Health $ Human Resources Committee, and the House Transportation Committee. In addition, Representative Shipley serves as the Vice-Chair of the House Public Safety Subcommittee.
