Fire Fighter Bill Signed into Law

(NASHVILLE)- Representative Shipley was present yesterday at a bill signing ceremony as Governor Bredesen signed House Bill 1246 at the State Capitol in Nashville. House Bill 1246 requires both career and volunteer firefighters to meet certain training requirements.

“We depend on our firefighter to save lives, and they perform a very brave task,” said Rep. Shipley. “They should have all the tools and training we can possibly give them so that they are safe in that very dangerous process. We appreciate what they do for our state,” he added.

Specifically, the bill requires 16 hours of initial training, and an additional 64 hours of training over a three year period for new firefighters. The legislation builds on the Fire Department Recognition Act.
